Employee offboarding is what happens when an employment relationship comes to an end and an employee leaves the organisation.
It is the opposite of onboarding (or induction) and should take place regardless of whether the person has resigned, is retiring, or you are letting them go. An effective offboarding process helps provide clear structure while keeping things amicable and supporting the person’s transition out of your organisation.
You should tailor the steps in the offboarding process to the person’s role and circumstances, i.e. whether they are resigning, retiring, being made redundant, or otherwise terminated.
